Wildfires – am I safe to travel?
As the relentless heatwave across Europe continues, you might be left wondering if it’s safe to travel this summer.
European holiday hotspots Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal are just a handful of countries to have been affected so far. Further afield, wildfires are taking hold of areas of Algeria, the US and Canada.

Booking a last-minute summer getaway?
If you’re eyeing up a last-minute holiday bargain, it’s worth doing a bit of homework before you part with your cash to make sure you’re getting the best deal.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has urged holidaymakers to carry out checks before they hit checkout on their bargain holiday.
- Check the travel provider is ATOL protected
- Compare prices with other travel providers
- Look out for hidden booking fees and extra costs for baggage
They also recommend paying with a credit card. That way you’ll be protected in the event of your travel provider going bust.
2024-25 cruise itineraries released
It’s been a busy few weeks for cruise lines. Here’s what you may have missed:
- Oceania Cruises have shared their plans for Caribbean and Pacific cruises for 2024-25. There’s a choice of seven to 16 day cruises, some including daylight passages through the Panama Canal linking the Caribbean with famous Pacific ports like Acapulco.
- River cruise specialist Riviera Travel has opened bookings for their 2024 Christmas and New Year river cruises along the Rhine and Danube. There’s a choice of six different trips, starting at £1,059 per person for a five-day Rhine cruise which includes visits to four Christmas markets.
- MSC Cruises have surprised everyone by releasing their summer 2025 itineraries earlier than usual. They’ve also confirmed that the popular MSC Virtuosa – one their largest and most impressive ships – will return to Southampton in 2025 for its fourth consecutive summer.
